BOOKS AND BALLS AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PROGRAM
A COVID COMPLIANT EXPERIENCE
PW PAL and Sylvan Learning Center are partnering to offer a special after school activity program designed to meet the unique challenges of our current times. Sylvan’s professional education staff will supervise the “books” and PW PAL’s professional certified coaches the “balls”.
An activity program that combines professional academic instruction with professional athletic instruction so that children are able nourish their brains and bodies on a daily basis.
WHO: Students in Grades 2-5 (max 24 students per grade).
Students will be split into 'bubbles' of 8, all efforts will be made to maintain grade integrity within the bubble. Each bubble will have 2 High School 'assistants' working under the Sylvan supervision insuring home work is completed.
WHO ELSE: IEP Students (max 12 students currently in grades 3-8)
Students in grades 3-8 that receive IEP (or IEP type) services as part of their regular education.
WHEN: 7-Week program meeting Monday – Friday 330-530
September 14 and ending October 30 (weather permitting program will continue until Nov 20)
Books & Balls meets 330-530, Sylvan Learning Center MAY offer their own programming on-site 530-630. Registration for any Sylvan program will be directly through Sylvan.
WHERE: Outdoors at PW PAL (325 Main Street)
This is an outdoor program. Kids need fresh air, socialization and exercise. This covid complaint program provides that in as safe a manner as possible. There is a risk involved in everything we do but PW PAL does our best to minimze any risks as much as possible.
IN CASE OF HEAVY ALL DAY RAIN, program will need to be acncelled, just like any other outdoor program. If you're concerned about temperature, send your child with a sweatshirt. FYI, the average daily temperature in Port Washington in early November is 60-65 degrees!
Students will be split into small groups of 8 for 1 hour of professionally supervised homework help. This NOT a tutoring service. We provide home work help and guidance. For example, we'll help a child diagram a sentence or with basic functions but advance tutoring is offered by Sylvan. The same children will then spend 1 hour in a professionally run ‘recess like’ activity program. Recess means relay races, kickball, exercise and movement, etc. It is NOT specific sport instruction although some sports might be played if the children want.
Groups will be split so that while grades 2 & 3 are in "Books", grades 4 & 6 will be at "Balls" then they'll switch. Academic and athletic bubbles will be maintained as much as possible.
$99 per week ($350 for 4 weeks). There are NO pro-rated fees. It would be impossible to maintain covid compliant procedures and our 'bubbles' if all children were't attending regularly. We understand your child might have other activities and might need to miss a day and we will do our best to offer a pro-rated credit for any of our other programs.
You can now register on a daily basis for $30/day. You MUST tell us which days you are registered for and be consistent so we maintain covid compliance.
